Instructor: Associate Professor Iain Pardoe
This course examines the business case for the use of data-driven analytical tools for enhancing decision-making and managing risk. By understanding and applying appropriate business models and data-driven analytical tools, we learn how analysts and managers can uncover new strategies for serving customers and increasing profits. We will investigate the effectiveness of data-analysis techniques that are considered useful in business applications, and, in particular, the applicability of data mining and other "knowledge discovery" methods.

Instructor: Assistant Professor Mike Pangburn
The increasing popularity of electronic-commerce has fueled an explosion in database use. Database systems support the majority of all transactions occurring over the internet. Once limited to the back-office of large corporations, database systems are now widely used by companies of all sizes. As information-storage and processing requirements continue to increase in scope, database professionals face ever-increasing challenges. Topics covered in this course include: requirements analysis, database design theory, query writing, data modeling, and normalization techniques.

Instructor: Associate Professor Nagesh Murthy
This course will provide a managerial perspective of both the important tactical and strategic issues, as well as an understanding of the analytical tools that are used to solve important supply chain problems. We will explore order-fulfillment strategies and the impact of the Internet on distribution and back-end processes. We also examine issues relating to enterprise integration and information visibility, which traditionally have been a severe hurdle for achieving successful supply chain integration. By the end of the course, we will develop a thorough understanding of the supply chain function and its operations, including how to evaluate and design effective supply chains.
DSC488/DSC588
Instructor: Dr Grant Castner
We first examine important eBusiness concepts such as I.T. infrastructure, electronic payments systems, I.T. security, eBusiness development languages and frameworks (for example, HTML, CSS, XML, ASP.NET). Building on this conceptual foundation, we analyze different eBusiness models and cases before learning how to create sophisticated web sites using the ASP.NET framework and the Visual Studio integrated development environment (IDE). These web sites will include features such as dynamic pages (powered by a SQL Server 2005 database), online payments, multiple languages, AJAX, RSS feeds, and secure logins.
